FOUNDER

RODRIGO GUTIERREZ

Corialent

12 years ago, Rodrigo decided that the Coca Colas of the world shouldn’t be the only ones who get to have all the fun in the advertising industry. He was sick of all the dull, corporate, navy blue and white B2B work out there. Business people are people too. Corialent specializes in B2B marketing that doesn’t suck. And they want to get the rest of the industry drinking that delicious KoolAid.

Understanding Others

Learning to understand others begins with empathy, the ability to recognize and respond to others feelings and needs. Without empathy a person is quite simply "empty." A person who has developed personal development skills, has an interest in others, who experiences empathy, and who uses his or her personal development skills to help people, is likely to have a more positive interpersonal relationship than one who does not have any of these traits. Empathy is one of the key ingredients in a successful relationship, and when it is developed and used effectively, others will respond positively to you and to your environment.

You can learn to understand others through personal self-awareness. Self-awareness is having a sense of who you are. When you understand your own self-awareness, you become more aware of how you relate to others and how you can improve your interactions with them. Personal self-awareness also helps you to be aware of what you do that causes others to react negatively to you. For example, if you frequently make judgments or criticize other people you may find that this tends to affect your relationships with them, which can lead to negative interactions with others, such as the deterioration of your relationships with friends and co-workers.

Personal development skills such as empathy helps us understand others by helping us to understand ourselves. It's important that we develop an awareness of our own emotions and how we are feeling about the world and people around us. In fact, the more we understand our own emotions, the better we can understand others and be empathic toward them. Personal self-awareness also helps us to know our limits, when we should expect certain positive or negative behaviors from others, and it helps us know our true potential. All of these things lead to a greater emotional intelligence, which in turn leads to a greater understanding and compassion for those who experience different types of difficulties and emotions.

Empathy also has a stronger effect on improving one's own personal health and the quality of that health. People who lack this skill tend to be more passive and self-negligent. Those who are very skilled at this skill are happier, healthier, and more satisfied with their relationships. A healthy balance of cognitive empathy and emotional intelligence is needed to effectively deal with difficult situations. People who have higher levels of both skills tend to be more successful and happier.

Empathy helps us learn more about others by encouraging us to notice the signs and symptoms of their emotions. When we recognize negative emotions in others, we are motivated to change our own behavior and reactions. Empathy helps us take control of our own feelings and emotions by increasing our ability to self-monitor and manage our own responses and emotions. This is called self-monitoring and is one of the key elements of emotional intelligence. When we are more self-aware we become more aware of what is going on in our own minds and bodies and are able to make changes more effectively.

Self-awareness is one way we can improve our self-relationships. It also helps us learn more about how our emotions impact other people and helps us to change those attitudes for the better. In this way we can increase the quality of relationships within our families, communities and work environments. People who are more self-aware are happier and healthier and live longer than those who are not.

Our brains are structured like a computer, with two sets of software running in parallel. One set of software controls the emotional processing in our brains and the other set of software controls cognitive processes such as thinking and rationalizing. The left side of our brain is responsible for processing feelings and emotions while the right side of our brain is responsible for logical and rationalizing thoughts. When a person lacks the skill of empathy, they will not be able to effectively use either set of software. They will have difficulty changing the beliefs and behaviors they hold about others or themselves and will feel less empathy for others.

Learning how to practice empathy and practicing it on a regular basis will help anyone to grow as a person and gain self-confidence. Empathy is a gift that we all have to give and take with us for our full human life. We are social animals and without empathy we would fail at being fully ourselves. As humans, we naturally develop empathy when we feel safe and supported by others. When we lack empathy, we become critical and needy which can undermine our careers and have a negative impact on the relationships we build. So make the time to practice feeling for others and you will find yourself feeling better about yourself and your world in general.
